Hi,
one of our ferrets has had rat tail for a few years. (He's not adrenal.) This summer it didn't appear again. Only one thing changed in his life: he had one of his teeth pulled out. He has always had ugly teeth but the vets we saw said they weren't so serious to treat. Of course, it's a guess but I can't help thinking that his rat tail was due to his teeth and they were worse than thought. And I believe that sometimes some sort of inflamation in the body can also cause rat tail.
But I have also seen ferrets kept on low quality cat food with rat tail getting all right after a change in nutrition containing a lot more meat protein.

I have the same thing happening with five out of ten- no parasites nothing wong healthwise- the vet says omly dry skin. Any ideas????
