Edward,
Thanks for your comments. I have 3 males and 2 females. The males are fixed and de-scented (Marshall Farms ferrets). The females are fixed but not descented (Ferret Aid Society ferrets). They are caged during the day while my wife and I are at work. We also have a ferret we are fostering for the Ferret Aid Society. As one of our female ferrets does not like the foster we now have 2 run groups. So we have had to cut back somewhat on the free time we give our guys, especially in the mornings before we leave. Also, as we live in an apartment we have radiated heat. I have recently begun to run a cool mist humidifier. So perhaps there is an increased stress level combined with dry air that is contributing to this problem. We do feed a high quality diet, ultimate 8 in 1 and Innova evo. We may have found a permanent home for our foster ferret so I'm hoping to relieve one source of stress shortly.
In regards to our vet. I think I may have inadvertently mischaracterized her response. She did do blood work, a thorough physical exam and even an adrenal panel on one of our guys (as he was becoming a little aggressive) and she found no health problems. She advised it was more than likely dry skin and/or season shedding. Still, we'll keep our eyes on it.
Cheers,
