Subject: [ferrethealth] Reaction to Melatonin Implant
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com
Question-our ferret received a melatonin implant (has had several
previous implants) and approximately 20 minutes after she developed a
reaction. Symptoms were:
all color was drained from the mucous membranes, her nose, ears, gums
were white to cyanotic, lethargic, unable to hold her head up, and
according to vet acidotic.
The vet was not convinced the melatonin was the cause but immediately
removed the implant. After an overnight stay she improved and was
discharged home without complications.
Has anyone every had a similiar experience after a melatonin implant? We
have 15 ferrets and they have been receiving implants every 3-4 months
for several years but we never experienced a reaction.
Thanks for any input
