Sarah,

One of the ferrets I foster for the ferret aid society, when he initially came to me, was quite scrawny. He had just had adrenal surgery as well as having two lumps removed from his skin. He had been abondoned at animal control That was 6 months ago. Presently my little adoptee has regained a pound of weight and now weights a few ounces short of 3lbs. How I did this was to suplliment his regular kibble diet with high calorie vitamin paste (a teaspoon full per day) along with some chicken baby food orally by syringe, approx 1cc was all I could get down at a time. We used the 8 in 1 vitamin paste but I understand marshall also makes some as do other manufacturers.

Cheers,
SirHopofGRass

[Moderator's Note: because syringe feeding carries the risk of aspiration pneumonia FHL member veterinarians have asked that we remind people to not do syringe feeding unless your vet or vet tech teaches you hands-on how to do it safely. Otherwise, situations could be made a lot worse when trying to help.]
