For ferrets that I test frequently I shave a bit of hair off the tip of the tail so that I don't have to continously worry about wicking and I test there.

Someone did suggest that this may not give an accurate reading (different places on human body give different readings also) so if you choose to use the tail tip you might want to take ferret and meter to your vet's office and both of you draw a sample from your preferred spots (yours and your vets); then compare results to see if what reading you get on the tail tip is about the same as what your vet gets from wherever he takes a sample with may be cutting a nail short enough to bleed.

I'm wondering where on the ferret's body is the best place to try to
extract a drop of blood to use the Freestyle Flash meter. It requires
the smallest sample of blood of any home testing unit. My vet
suggested NOT to use the pad of the foot, but the other places I've
tried have brought no success, and I don't want to continue to jab at
Neo without more direction.

Also, if anyone is in need of one of these Freestyle Flash meters, I
can provide a link from where I got mine, which was the lowest price I
found on the internet. Just email me privately.
