Subject: [ferrethealth] Re: Major find/Question-unknown illness!?
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

EGE is a known mink coronavirus intestinal disease from which ECE
possibly arose as a mutant.

This year there was a problem with a recurrent coccidia, and there
was a pathology project to study it BUT too few locations with the
disease provided any specimens so the project died due to lack of
follow-up by the ferret community. How difficult is it to provide
fecals? Even providing cadavers isn't terribly hard when it can help
stop an illness. Still, this time it just didn't happen. The request
for specimens appeared in multiple lists, but many shelter keepers
read intermittently given their busy schedules, so it fell through
the cracks.

If you have the disease currently on-going I can get in touch with
the head pathologist who was looking at it in case there may be a
chance to revive the project.
