Subject: [ferrethealth] Monitoring Potassium levels?
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

I have a ferret with Cardiomyopathy. He is on Enalapril and Lasix. In
order to counteract the potassium depleting effects of the Lasix, I
have been giving him pedialyte with each of his duck soup feedings (2x
per day). Is there any way for me to monitor at home his potassium or
any symptoms that might indicate potassium levels that are too low or
too high as his treatment will be for the rest of his life? I know the
vet can check for it, but getting expensive blood draws when the ferret
seems healthy is a burden on our limited resources.

Thanks for any advice!
