When a blood vessel is slowly impaired the body often utilizes
other routes for the blood flow, called "collateral circulation".
One trick that is used to find out if those are taking enough of
the circulation is to depress the blood vessel and see if others
compensate. If that was tried and the vessels did not
compensate then ultimately waiting may work out best. So,
I guess what it boils down to is that you should get more details
from your treating vet before making your choice.
We had one whose Cava was infiltrated by the tumor but she
never developed the alternative circulation; luckily, that didn't
wind up mattering in her case. She did well for a good amount
of time with reduced circulation until her final illness -- totally
separate -- finally took her.
