Subject: [ferrethealth] older ferret (6.5yrs) choking on kibble
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com
Has anyone had any experiences with older ferrets choking on kibble?
My Rocky is 6.5 years. This evening he appeared to get choked on his
kibble, which results in gagging and eventually vomiting up some food.
He had adrenal surgery about two weeks ago (removed left completely,
lasered much of right, recovered well, what's left of the right gland
is apparently working), and is just now starting back on dry kibble,
but I have seen him choke like this even before the surgery. Stools
are soft (due to mostly soft food since surgery), but of appropriate
size. I have considered MegaE but I don't hearing any of the gurgling,
etc., noises. The Vet hasn't indicated any dental problems, and
checked all lower internal organs during surgery. Rocky has just
yesterday finished two weeks on Baytril as part of post-op care. Any
ideas as to why he might be choking? He eats mostly Purina Pro-Plan
Extra Care Indoor Cat.
