Kim,
Just a thought. Could be the shape of the kibble. If the choking or coughing has only started in the past few weeks, and you are now using a newer bag of food, the kibble size could have been changed by the manufacturer. It may be getting caught in the roof of his mouth, hence the choking. Like I said, just a thought. They do make changes to the food over time.
