Deb,
What is wrong about caging Luke and Gabriella together. If they get along, no blood letting, let them stay together. If you feel the need for an companion for Gabby, some one closer to her age, consider getting one from a shelter that is in the two to four year range. If at all possible, let Luke and Gabriella pick their new companion. But really the decision is yours. Luke may live a few more years, so do you want to care for three ferrets. And if they all get along, keep them together.
We have eighteen that are housed in three cages at night. They range in age from less than a year to going on eight years of age. Only have one problem child. A three year old alpha female that is a holy terror to two boys. They sleep in different cages but are out together during the day. Some days they all play fine. Some days she is a terror. But the decision is yours
