Subject: [ferrethealth] pneumonia treated with Cephalexin not responding, Pecan update
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

Ling Ling a lovely MF DEW female 2-3 years old, was diagnoised with
Pneumonia by X-ray on Dec 14th. SHe was put on 0.42 ml of Cephalexin
oral suspension (250mg/5ml)2X a day. She weighs 1170 grams. So far, I
haven't noticed any difference in her.

She never really seemed "sick". I sent her out for an x-ray becasue I
thought her respiration was too fast and whenever I would pick her up
she would "squeek". I didn't know if that was a pain response or what
was going on, hence the vet visit and X-ray. She has always eaten
really well ( a little to well) and is active. She has never been a
ferret that played all out but never was her roommate. She digs in
the dig box and roots around under the sheets and digs holes in the
carpet. Usual ferret behavior! They didn't really know what playing
was when they arrived here 5 months ago as they were cage bound.

She still sounds the same and acts they same. Still squeeks. She only
has 2 more days of the 14 day regime left. Any ideas what to do? I
hate stopping the meds when I don't think they have done anything.
Perhaps a different med or longer on the dame med? Different dosage?
All suggestions will be appreciated, thanks, Mary Jo

Ps Pecan is hanging in there. Yesterday I peeled about a square inch
of dead skin from around his muzzle. it had became very hard so I
soaked it in baby oil for a few hours and removed it. He has slowed
down on waht he wants to eat. I thought perhaps the hardened skin was
painful. Underneath revealed very pink wrinkled skin but it is not
weeping so I take that as a good sign. Also, the center of his
largest paw pads are starting to reveal pink. His toes are still in
pretty bad shape but the tops of his feet are smooth and bright pink,
no more massive eruptions/roughness. The rest of his body is still
full of eruptions and redness.
