My ferret Humphrey drank his own urine for most of his seven years, and he
was the only one I've ever seen do it. Once in awhile he would wee on the
linoleum, turn around, and lap it up as if it were Ferretone. Then I'd clean &
disinfect the floor, wipe off his mouth with a wet paper towel, and that was
that. My position was that I had no control over it, there certainly was no
point in punishing him over it, and it seemed to have no negative effect on his
health. My vet couldn't find any real info on this, and I recall from my own
research that the consensus seems to be "we have no idea but there seems to
be no harm in it."

Is anyone aware of any studies on urine drinking in ferrets? Is the above
consensus still the case in the ferret community?
