Sorry for the misunderstanding. As Sukie said, last year a new vaccine registered for ferrets was introduced in Hungary, which contained LIVE distemper virus. Here's the link to the manual of this vaccine:
http://www.dyntec.cz/index.php?odkaz=http://redaktor-data.quasar.cz/dyntec/ENG_CanvacDHP.pdf&z=69

I don't know about any other vaccine that has live virus in it given to ferrets - neither in Hungary nor in other countries.

Vets were offered samples for free and used it with ferrets because that's what it was promoted for! But it's a long story because the producer had known for years that their product is dangerous for ferrets, still they sold it for them here. :(
Unfortunately, this was to be the first vaccine registered for ferrets that's why vets used it, otherwise we have always used dog vaccines containing killed distemper virus and they have proved to be safe.
Actually, NOT ALL ferrets died from Canvac, only those who got it as the first shot. Those who had the second shot or their annual reminder are all fine. The same was experienced in other countries, too, but according to my knowledge, this product (Canvac) is/was sold in EASTER EUROPE only.

The reason why we use it for the promotion of vaccination is that there are still some people who think it's pointless, stupid, expensive (or whatever they think) to vaccinate a ferret. Sad chance to have these pictures and videos to show what lack of vaccination can do, but distemper is still a real danger for dogs and ferrets in Hungary. We thought it's important to let these people see what happens if they do not immunize their pets as the pictures and videos show real distemper symptoms.

So vaccines do not cause distemper in ferrets, only this particular vaccine with live virus and hopefully, it won't be sold in any other country any more.(As I heard it's not the best choice for dogs, either.)

I'm really sorry for not making it clear in my previous post...
