Subject: [ferrethealth] Please read-lethargic ferret with fever update
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

I have a 1 yr old male ferret that started getting lethargic last night and is presenting a
fever. He was brought to the vet this morning. Temp was 104.9. He recieved 50 mls LRS
SQ. His stool is normal. His appetite is normal. No sneezing, coughing, or discharge.
Bloodwork is as follows:
Cl 122 may be inaccurate. machine is acting up
K 4.1 may be inaccurate. machine is acting up
Na *didn't run machine is acting up
Amyl 23
ALB 2.7
ALKP 34
ALT 121
BUN 19
Ca 9.9
CHOL 129
CREA 0.5
GLOB 3.6
GLU 153
PHOS 3.5 may be inaccurate. machine is acting up
TBIL 0.1
TP 6.4

PCV 50%
Total Protein 6.4
Serum: clear
WBC 5.2
Neutrophils 73%
Bands 0%
Lymphocytes 23%
Monocytes 1%
EOSINOPHILS 3%
Basophils 0%
NRBC none seen
Platlets: adequate/clumped

UA showed +3 struvite crystals and 2+ cocci bacteria, but this was a free catch, and the
vet believes these are from contamination. Specific gravity >1.040. pH 8.0 all else negative
in UA.

Plan is to continue with SQ fluids and start on clavamox. His temp was at 104.4 about 30
min ago.

Has anyone ever went through this before? I am really scared this is the beginning of DIM.
He has a sister that is doing great. No fever or lethargy. I should mention that he could
have gotten in to something...he escapes sometimes. He recently got in to some potting
soil (about a week ago). Any advice would be REALLY helpful. I am really scared right now.

Thanks,
Amanda
