Subject: Re: [ferrethealth] Question: reaction to anesthesia
To: <ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com>
I've only had one experience with anesthesia, but it wasn't a good one. When Neo was in for insulinoma and adrenal surgery (done at same time) back in January, he was given gas anesthesia, but I don't remember the specific name of it. He was expected to be able to come home within two days, but was very slow to come around, and didn't come home for 4 days. When he did, it took a few more days before we were able to get him eating and drinking normally. Part of that may have been due to the ulcers that he was also fighting at the time, but I believe he just had a hard time getting the anesthesia out of his system. He also had a strange reaction. When we heated his soup a bit and it enhanced the aroma, he would begin to convulse when he smelled it, as if he were going to vomit. And this was just from the aroma, before he even was given any of the soup. We stopped heating the soup so that he could get close enough to it to eat it, and this reaction finally wore off also. But all in all it took 8 or 9 days for him to get back to 'normal' and to the point where he would eat out of his bowl, without our urging or help.
