Subject: [ferrethealth] What do you think of these ADV results?
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

I have had some testing done on the ferrets recently. I am going to
list the test results and random symptoms that we are NOT assuming are
ADV. We are doing lots of other tests to determine the cause.

We did the following tests on 3 ferrets:

ELISA blood (sent to exotic animal clin-path-lab)
CEP blood (sent to Blue Cross lab)
Electrophoresis

Alvin:
random symptoms: acute swelling of all 4 legs starting with back legs,
lasted 48 hours then resolved. Muscle atrophy, slight hind leg weakness.
electrophoresis results:
Albumin 52.2% 3.24 G/dl
Alpha 1 7.4% .46 G/dl
Alpha 2 9.4% .58 G/dl
Beta 15.7% .97 G/dl
Gamma 15.3% .95 G/dl
Values reported are within normal expected ranges. Albumin and A/G
ratio values are good.
ELISA ADV: slight positive
Blue Cross ADV: negative

Nina:
random symptoms: always been very lethargic ferret (normal for her),
chronic diarrhea, colitis
Electrophoresis results:
Albumin 41.3 2.81
Alpha 1 7.5 0.51
Alpha 2 9.2 0.63
Beta 20.9 1.42
Gamma 21.1 1.43 Abnormal
Decreased a/g ratio value. Increased beta and gamma globulin.
-consider acute inflammation, systemic mycotic diseases, protein
losing enteropathies, and in the nephrotic syndrome.
- consider acute or chronic inflammation, infection, chronic
hepatitis, and immune mediated disorders.
ELISA ADV: negative
Blue Cross ADV: negative

Franklin:
random symptoms: fatigue, wasting, shakes when waking up, muscle loss,
nausea, kidney abnormalties on ultrasound, anemia
Electrophoresis results:
Albumin 42.3 2.37
Alpha 1 8.3 .46
Alpha 2 11.7 .66
Beta 19.4 1.09
Gamma 18.2 1.02
Decreased a/g ratio values. Increased beta globulin.
- consider acute inflammation, systemic mycotic diseases, protein
losing enteropathies, and in the nephrotic syndrome.

Elisa ADV: "strong" positive
Blue Cross ADV: negative

Further blood results on Franklin:
Albumin 2.8
BUN 25 (range 11-39)
Calcium 8.2 (range 8-12)
Cholesterol 135
Creatinine 1.2 HIGH (0.4-0.9)
Glucose 86 LOW (range 94-169)
Phosphorus 5.0
SGOT (AST) 56
SGPT (ALT) 39 LOW (Range 82-289)
T. Bilirubin 0.7
Total Protein 5.4
Ca++ 1.29
Adjusted Ca++ 1.33
pH 7.450
Na 150.7
k+ 4.77

I'd really appreciate any comments, thanks!
