Val,
As far as I know, no pain meds were given and only gas was used. I
will definately keep the no surgery on Friday rule in mind. If I
should ever face this situation again, I will definatly start fluids
earlier and heavier. I will also talk to the vet about subq fluids
too. My vet is at least an hour away. Thanks for your advice and
help. I am still very new to ferrets and appreciate all the help I've
been given.

I am sure one of the vets will correct me if I am wrong, but based on the w=
ay I=99ve always done surgeries (tech for six years at three clinics, all o=
f which do surgery), it would be unlikely that your guy would just have bee=
n put under gas anesthesia without at least some other medication used as a=
premed to help prepare him for the anesthesia. This helps make them sleep=
y and makes induction less stressful, among other things. I would also thi=
nk that they may have given an antibiotic injection (though not necessarily=
) due to the tooth extraction, and possibly pain meds because of the extrac=
tion. The premeds wouldnt necessarily show up on your invoice as a separat=
e item that you could pinpoint: Our pre/post operative analgesia just show=
s up as pre/post analgesia so we have some flexibility with what we use, ou=
r premeds show up as preinduction or just part of induction, or anesthesia =
included referring to injectable anesthetics used prior to turning on the g=
as-we dont charge separately for these drugs because they are part of induc=
tion. FYI. I hope your fuzzy is doing better.

I love Ulrike's advice about not doing Friday surgeries if your vet isn't o=
pen over the weekend (I happen to work at a 7-day-a-week clinic, and still =
wouldn't want to have to come in on a busy weekend, but at least we're here=
for our clients all weekend). I know it can be a nightmare having to find=
emergency care in off hours (my guys only like to get desperately ill on S=
at or Sunday nights a few hours after my own hospital closes and my vets go=
away=A6. ;) God forbid they got sick at 11am on Wednesday, when we're o=
pen 7:30am till 9pm and there is a tech like me on duty all night=A6)

Best,

April (vet tech and ferret owner)
