Yes, Neo was on the proper meds for his ulcers all along, and we got them completely cured within a few weeks after the operation, but the pancreas problems, whether it was just insulinoma or pancreatitis or carcinoma, is what caused his demise. After reading posts by you, Ulrike, and Sukie, I'm pretty sure it was not the anesthesia that caused the problems that lingered for days after surgery. But at the time, it seemed like the logical cause.

"It sounds like your guy may have had an upset stomach postop, or pancreatitis, especially if he had a history of ulcers (nausea induced by the mere smell of food, for example). Did they have him on ulcer meds (sucralfate?) or anything for the nausea (pepcid, omeprazole/Prilosec, for example?). Out of curiosity. That's generally not the anesthesia itself, but rather the procedure and the stress causing those types of complications, or pain meds or antibiotics or other meds they might be given.
I'm sorry he didn't have a longer time with you postop....
Best,
April (vet tech and ferret owner)
