A bit of information related to your questions can be found in two
links in two past posts, esp. by pulling up the link:

I don't know if the portion of the compounds of cyanuric acid and
melamine that crystalizes is ever shed or not.

and here is more:

also with a still active link worth following in it

But the entire recognition of the problem is so new that most
questions are unanswered, including the results of chronic exposure.

They *think* they know the timeline-- for the U.S. at least -- by
tracing when importers switched to those two companies, but since
they are broadening the search the number of companies implicated and
the timeline could enlarge.

I am curious if melamine and cyanuric acid cross the placenta to
rodent fetuses and if they can be passed through nursing to the
rodents. *IF NOT* then it may be that the safest approach for raw
feeders until more in known will be to consult with veterinary
nutritionists (Past posts have info on that.) and to provide pinkies
and newly hatched chicks which are sold frozen but to supplement the
nutrients in which those newborn animal food sources are low, for
example, calcium, but it really, really, really DOES call for
consulting the people who have the highly specific nutrient info and
can work out what needs changing and what does not, so asking people
who have the right advanced degrees for such a highly specialized
need with highly specialized information just plain makes sense. If
a group of raw feeders pay for that consultation work with the
understanding of the specialists that the information will be shared
then all could learn that way.
