That is a reasonable suggestion - feeding newborn prey with
supplementation. And the supplementation is important, because newborn
prey does not have enought of some essential nutrients. Calcium is one
good example.

For the short term, pinkies and day old chicks as an only food source
may not harmful. But over a period of weeks or months, a diest of just
baby prey can lead to severe mineral deficiencies.

Of course, all that assumes that the contaminate does not pass through
in the milk or through the plecenta.

But, bottom line - it appears there are questions that need to be
asked, and answers that need to be found.

I am hoping some of the vets on the list will join in on this
discussion. It would be good to hear some thoughts from those who have
mare training in these matters.
