Subject: [ferrethealth] GnRH implant Q
To: <ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com>

I guess not many members here on the list have experience with the GnRH implant, but I thought to give it a try because we've got stuck..

My son was diagnosed with adrenal at around the age of 1,5. We chose surgery so his left adrenal was removed some months later. After that we had a short period of release from symptoms but they returned in early spring. So we chose the implant... It was two and a half months ago, also before the coat change.
The implant should have started working by now. In the cases I know it took about a month to have a rapid change. But unfortunately, we are not one of those...

The symptoms are even worse than before the surgery. Abu is skin and bones, itching a lot, thin skin and hair, awful rat tail, drinking and urinating a lot, orange all over, sleeping lot more than the others. I called the vet who gave the implant and probably knows the most about it here but he had no idea, either. He suggested giving oral melatonin, too, which I don't know whether it's a good idea to give double hormone treatment?
Some vets use GnRH antagonist injection instead of the implant here. (I know nothing else about is.) Should we have the implant removed and start the injection?
Or should we wait to see if something happens later?
Or should we try alternative medicine? I like some of them but I don't think they could do much about adrenal gland disease.. (Some friends tried them with their adrenal ferrets without any success.)

I checked the implant, it's still there..

I also thought that maybe something else could be wrong with him and it was a coincidence that adrenal problem was found but other things were already excluded last year and the symptoms are still the same..

Of course, I understand that even the best medicine is not 100% and I also understand that in adrenal there are hopeless cases and we're going to lose him much earlier than expected but would like him to be free from these symptoms as long as possible... And really don't know what to do... :(

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated... Thanks a lot,

Nelli
