Subject: [ferrethealth] ear infection from a ferret
To: <ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com>

what do you mean by ear infection? do you mean local skin irritation and infection or external ear canal infection ( like with swimmer;s ear) or middle ear infection. Do you have to take antibiotics, or just ear drops, or do you just put bacitracin on it and it gets better?
If you notice a problem, then just don't allow them to chew on or lick your ear.
It makes sense to avoid it if you notice an issue afterwards. However, there would be no correlation between a middle ear infection and what you describe, just possble skin infection from the bacteria in the ferret's mouth or even from the surface of your skin if the skin is broken during the cleaning process.
