Subject: [ferrethealth] hind leg weakness/neurological
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com
Hello everyone,
I have three beautiful ferrets, age 2.5, who have been in perfect health
until recently. Lily started walking wobbly about three weeks ago. She has a
very excellent vet, who I took her to right away and he did blood
(non-fasting, all levels fine) and an x-ray, which showed an upper respiratory infection.
Two weeks of amoxi (antibiotic) and no better, in fact she was worse. Took
her back in yesterday and she had a fasting blood test, still fine, so it is
not insulinoma. The doctor thinks it is neurological and we are doing 2
weeks of .3 cc pred, and then he will recheck her. She eats fine and poops
fine, doesn't seem to be in pain and is still interested in things - but she
seems to be getting weaker and her movement is really difficult - very weak in
hind quarters, crooked when walking, can't climb well and much less energy.
Any ideas? I am worried about her.
Thanks, Lisa and Lily
