Subject: [ferrethealth] Side effects of long-term Pepto use?
To: <ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com>
pepto does have an aspirin like product in it, I am not sure it would be the best choice for ulcers or gastritis. What would make more sense would be a product like Pepcid, or prilosec which reduce /block stomach acid production-which you may or may not want to do depending on what you are treating. OR if grinding teeth, pain, then carafate before feedings. You should discuss it with your vet.

One of my little girls had very bad problems with stomach ulcers and
bleeding a couple of months ago, and she's been on Pepto Bismul twice
daily since then.
Our vet said it "should be okay" to keep giving it; and that it was a
good idea since the medication she's on (Prednisone) can be tough on
the stomach especially if she's had ulcers before.
Is it really okay to use Pepto long-term? Or can it hurt more than it
helps?
