Subject: [ferrethealth] Ingesting estrogen from prey?
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

Something for the nutritionists among us. I'm curious, for our U.S
ferrets that have been altered at such an early age and the jury is
still out on how that affects them without normal hormonal development;
if a female ferret is fed a natural prey diet of female animals (
mammals and avians) would this actually PUT estrogen hormones into her
system or would the hormones be destroyed by the digestive process?

Same question of course for male ferrets.

I know that Josie HAD to have been spayed around that dreaded three
week mark, because she was about 5 1/2 weeks old when I got her and
there was no evidence of recent surgery.

so if I was to feed her a diet of predominantly female prey would this
help her in the long run? Or would it not matter?

Wondering, JosiesMOm
