Ferret Vaccine Reactions/IBD

I just had my third vaccine reaction with a ferret vaccine. I am fostering
Poe, and she reacted today after receiving both Rabies and Distemper (I
don't normally do this, but the vet records that came in with her showed
both being given with no problems for the last two years.)
The only other ferret (Angel) I had react did so on receiving just the
distemper booster. We debated about doing it again the following year, and
did so after pre-treating with benadryl. She again reacted even more
violently; so we decided no more distemper for her. About a year later, she
developed severe IBD, and I lost her about a month ago. Is this just a
co-incidence, or have others had similar problems?
Poe's reaction was less violent that either of Angel's; but at this point, I
am not sure I want to subject her to this again next year. Any thoughts
would be appreciated.
Thank you.

I ALWAYS separate out my vaccines, precisely because you can see a reaction at _any_ time, and I 1) want to know to which vax they had a reaction 2) don't want to increase the likelihood of catastrophic problems by giving them a double whammy. As I've said before, the distemper vax in more likely to cause a reaction, but I have had three separate rabies vaccine reactions. two in the same animal which were life-threatening, so I stick to my policy of always premedicating (intramuscular or oral, though I prefer IM, Benadryl or IM dexamethasone SP), separating vaccines by at least two weeks, and waiting for at least 45 minutes to an hour at the vet's after vaccination.
Hope your baby is now okay!
Best,
April (vet tech and ferret owner)
