Subject: [ferrethealth] Propecia Help
To: <ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com>

I can't answer the other questions, but would ask the pharmacist about crushing it and timing.

Could the other drug be Flutamide? It is used in humans with prostate cancer because it blocks the circulating androgens. I am not sure about it's use in ferrets, but I guess it would help more if the enlarge prostate was from high androgens and not estrogens?
Casodex ( Bicalutamide) is used in ferrets and I think that is very similar to Flutamide, working along the same way by blocking testosterone. I think you can use it with Propecia.

Did you try to search the archives? I am pretty sure Casodex has been mentioned before, and I bet there is more info on propecia.

ps. A quick glance at the archives had about 30 posts , and it looks like one of them did mention crushing it and mixing it with the ferret's 'duck soup' without problems.

I'm about to start Mojave on Propecia in case it is adrenal disease
and so I have a couple of questions. (I am waiting for the Lupron
Depot to come in)

1. Is there a certain time of day that I should give it to him?

2. Anyone have any suggestions on how to give it to him? Can I crush
the pill up and put it in some water and give it to him that way?

3. Any idea of about how long it should take before I see results?

4. The vet wants to put him on on another drug for his prostate I
can't recall at this time what it was called but it begins with an
F. It sounded something like Flouranimide? I
