Subject: [ferrethealth] Poop - Black and runny
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com
Hi,
First, Thank you to everyone who loves their babies so much for all the posting you do to help people like me. I read everyday.
Now, I posted about 4 weeks ago and here is what I was dealing with then.
Prolapsed Rectum
seedy yellow (somewhat normal looking) poop
loosing weight
I took George to the vet who wanted to do surgery on prolapsed rectum, said there was just a very small amount of a bacteria in poop but that poop looked good and put us on prednisolone and clavamox. He has done well on medication. The prolapse is completely healed, with NO surgery.
He has continued eating and drinking throughout everything, I added giving him ferret?? the high calorie paste that comes in a tube, he loves it and will eat a bunch at a time from my finger but will not eat it off a plate. He also will not eat wet cat or ferret food, he eats only mazzuri ferret food dry.
Now, about 4 days ago he started having REALLY runny poop and it is black. He has such bad diarrhea that I can hear it when he poops. His rectum still looks good, not prolapsed, and he is still eating and drinking.
Some important notes. I read about people hearing their ferrets grinding their teeth, George makes a grinding sound with his teeth but only while eating. He does this even while eating the soft paste and even when I am giving him liquid medication.
George is at least 5 years old, he is a rescue ferret.
Thanks in advance.
Debbie
