Sandra, how high the dose is will depend on the CONCENTRATION of the med. The
important number is the mg number.

For example if his Pred is
2 mg/ml concentration then with a 0.4 cc (which is the same as ml) dose he will get 0.8
mg of the med with each dose.

BUT if he is getting the 1 mg/ml concentration then he is getting only 0.4 mg with each
dose

There are other concentration levels.

His weight also influences amounts. How much does he weigh?

We have used as high as 5 mg per day in a small female who was between a rock and a
hard place. Since she would be passing away anyway we risked it for extra time. With her
it was tricky because she also had heart disease and heart disease doesn't like Pred, but
the heart disease was not her limiting illness, so...

With Pred be extra-extra sure to give food with the med.

If what is being given is Prednisone instead of Prednisolone then try Prednisolone. The
body normally has to turn Prednisone into Prednisolone to use it, but if the liver is at all
compromised -- which is very common with lymphoma -- then giving Prednisolone is
more effective than giving Prednisone.

If there begins being stomach upset then the liquid prep of Carafate -- given at a different
time than other meds and foods (See archives about this.) will help protect the stomach.
