Subject: [ferrethealth] Re: Cancer and Vitamin C in ferrets
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

The thing is that malignancy types differ quite a lot, so what may be helpful for the patient
with one type of malignancy may be bad with another.

When I think about it, I think (but can not swear) that the human ones I have read which do
worse with either multivitamin or vitamin C supplementation have been hormonal types of
malignancies. The most recent study was that prostate one, and that was by researchers
at the National Cancer institute and published in the Journal of the National Cancer
Institute. The Sci Am website article is dated May 15, 2007.

BEGIN SHORT QUOTED SEGMENTS

The researchers followed 295,344 men over five years to see if there was a link between
multivitamin use and prostate cancer.
...
In men who took too many multivitamins, the risk of aggressive cancer increased by one
third, and the risk of fatal prostate cancer doubled compared to those who took no
multivitamins
...
"We didn't see any relationship with overall prostate cancer," said Dr. Michael Leitzmann
END QUOTES

I could not find the link I sent to a relative but
http://www.sciam.com/article.cfm?alias=too-many-vitamins-linked
discusses it, too, and that is what i quoted above.

That is why it would pay to know the type of cancer involved and to then check with a vet
oncologist about which of any supplement protocols would be good for specific forms of
malignancies and which could worsen things.
