Subject: [ferrethealth] possible juvenile lymphoma?
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com
One of my shelter ferrets is a Marshall's male, 14-15 months old, and
has been healthy in the past. In the past week all of his lymphnodes,
including the ones in his neck enlarged dramatically, where you can
visually see them when you look at him. His abdomen has also
tightened up and you can feel that his organs, like his spleen, have
enlarged. It doesn't seem to hurt him, but when you touch the abdomen
he does squirm, so he doesn't like it touched. He is still eating
fine, pooping fine, and acting relatively normal. Since we've had
him, he's always been very laid back and not the most energetic
ferret, so that hasn't changed at all.
In our area we have one vet that is ferret knowledgeable and she's out
of town for a while. So taking him to a vet is out of the question.
Talking to other shelters, most think it would be juvenile lymphoma.
I already did a lot of research online, so I don't need to be referred
to any websites or papers. There isn't much research on juvenile
lymphoma out there. That's why I'm looking for personal experience on
this one.
Thanks!
