40ish is never OK, 60ish is rarely OK. Are these results from the
vets office or from a lab?. Blood sent away for testing may
show lower results than the true figure as the insulin in the
blood will continue to work while it is transit. 60 in the vets
office and with spacey behaviour or any of the other common
signs is indicative of insulinoma. There is no need to fast a
ferret before BG testing.
Any ferret that tests below 90 should have repeat tests every
month until proven OK or not.
You can buy a home tester (for humans) cheaply (modern
ones use very small amounts of blood, 0.3 micro litres), if the
vet does in house testing then take your own meter and do a
reading at the same time as the vet and compare readings
(human meters read low on ferrets approx 10-15 lower) to
establish the accuracy of your meter and then you can do
regular testing at home.
