I thought milk thistle was used for liver issues? Anyway, you want to be careful with herbals, make sure you know what you are using and what 'dose' to use. Some vets do know a bit more about using herbals than others- and you can search the archvies here there have been some past discussions on their uses.

An enlarged spleen is failry common in older ferrets. You do want to look for underlying infections/illness. Helicobacter may be one. Causing stomach issues, pawing at mouth, lack of appetite, signs of gastritis or ulcers in the stomach.
A CBC should be done (if not already done) to see if anemic or any high white blood cell count. If I get blood done, I always get a blood glucose as well, just to screen for insulinoma while blood is being drawn anyway.

Removal of the spleen is an operation, so it has risks. I have had two have that done, both during adrenal surgery noted mass in spleen, so it was removed. They both did fine post op.

Hope that helps.

You can try using herbs to help shrink your ferrets spleen, Milk
Thistle Seed in particular. I have had good responces with it in my
Lymphoma ferrets.
