Subject: [ferrethealth] Re: Adrenal gland medication
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

Hi Linda
Trilostane (Vetoryl) is not recommended for ferret adrenal gland
disease. Trilostane almost always increases 17-hydroxy-
progesterone and sometimes increases the estradiol and andro
level. This will make the ferret worse. (Trilostane does a good job
lowering the cortisol level, so it works well in dogs with Cushings.)
Lupron depot is also called Prostap (Leuproelin) in Europe.
Melatonin would be another option. The third product is called
Suprelorelin (deslorelin). It is made in Australia, but I am not
sure if it is available in Spain yet.
Hope that helps,
Jerry Murray, DVM
