Subject: [ferrethealth] Stool guaiac test for ferrets?
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

Hello everybody

I am just knew here and have already a question ;-)

Is it possible to make a Stool Guaiac test in Ferrets
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stool_guaiac) in order to detect occult
blood in stool?

A vet once told me that the easiest way to detect blood in a ferret
stool is to add some drops of hydrogen peroxide. If it changes the
colour, then there is blood in it.
I did the test at home with hydrogen peroxide and the stool of my
ferrets turned green. Is there a reason to worry?

My ferrets eat, drink well and play a lot, only sometimes their stool
have a bit of mucous.

Thank you all in advance!

Greetings from Switzerland.
