Subject: [ferrethealth] Totally Ferret Baby for Older Ferrets
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com
As some of my past posts indicate, I am a big advocate
of mixing foods, but a few months ago I had a couple
jills who were "expecting", so I purchased some TF
Baby to meet their higher caloric/fat needs, and in
anticipation of the kits.
My guys are basically all out together, and I noticed
that some of the older ferrets seemed to really like
the TF Baby too. I was especially aware of this in a
9-10 year old who has some recurrent adrenal disease
(she had surgery when she was about 6), and another
who's lost all her top teeth but her canines. I think
because of a combination of it being easier to chew,
and higher in protein/fat even for a ferret who may be
eating less, both girls have put on some weight and
look better. Something to consider if you have an
older/sick ferret you are having a hard time keeping
weight on.
As far as the jills and kits are concerned... Once
they had the kits I fed the jills a mush of Baby TF,
powdered goat's milk, baby turkey, baby sweet potato,
cod liver oil, and Nutri Stat. Both jills maintained
their weight the whole time they were suckling. At 6
1/2 weeks the kits are now eating people toes, chicken
(raw and cooked), Baby TF, and Natural Gold. They are
still suckling a little bit.
Mostly wanted to pass the info about the Baby TF and
older ferrets along.
