I dont know precisely but when my new ferret, Suki, had
loose stools I took a fecal sample to the vet where it was sent
to lab and examined and campylobacter was diagnosed.
As we suspected helicobacter we queried this and they said
the organism was detected using a 'staining' procedure and
they could tell if it was helicobacter or whatever from this
procedure.

This was a lab in the UK.
