Yes, Galaxy D is very safe for ferrets as it was tested on ferrets. I
have been using Galaxy D for my ferrets for 11 years now with NO
reactions to it. IMO Galaxy D has a lower rate of reation. I had also
had ferrets that came into my rescue who had Fervac D and alot of them
who got their booster shots with the same vaccine ended up having
reactions to it. Most of the reactions I have heard about from Purevax
were fatal or near fatal reactions. As far as I know Fervac D IS gone
for good.Debi

**Fervac D is not in production and will likely never be in production again
- and this is not a bad thing, IMO, as I saw a high rate of reaction to it
(including two fatalities) and there is some concern as to whether it was/is
implicated in the development of DIM.

Galaxy D, while it has been studied in ferrets short-term and has a decent
safety profile in them, has not had the studies done to prove that it confers
lasting protection. I have used Galaxy in ferrets, but always advise my clients
that I cannot guarantee that they will be protected against canine distemper
virus for longer than the 21 days covered in the one study done. I have seen
reactions to Galaxy D, similar to the other vaccines.

Merial's Purevax is the only available licensed and proven vaccine against
canine distemper in ferrets (in the US, at any rate). Although I haven't
checked with Merial recently (as I ordered a good amount earlier this year and still
have plenty in stock), last I did check it was available for purchase. The
reactions I have seen to Purevax have been similar to the reactions seen to the
other vaccines, but I see fewer reactions to Purevax than I did to Fervac or
do to Galaxy. It is my vaccine of choice.**
