Many things can cause anemia and yes what you describe is possible,
but I would try to find out what form of anemia she has because at
her age she could also have an aplastic anemia from adrenal disease
without other signs. If this ends up being the case she could be
secreting too much estrogen causing the bone marrow to shut down.
Keep doing what you are doing but get her checked too.
Best to you and glad you got her out of the bad situation.
