Subject: [ferrethealth] Appetite stimulant
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

Thru the years I have had many ferrets who would stop eating so I
checked on the internet to see if there is anything we can give our
pets to help build up their appetite...I once had a friend who had
cancer and they gave her an appetite stimulant and to this day I
believe that is what helped pull her thru those nasty days of
chemo...so if they had one for humans why not one for animals... it
came in the form of " Cyproheptadine " it is used for many purposes
and one of them is for the appetite...I showed my vet and he
prescribed it for one of my fuzzies and to this day I always keep it
on hand for the fuzzies who do not want to eat due to many things such
as cancers, illnesses, etc...I always check with my vet before I give
it to a ferret just to make sure I am doing the right thing... I find
once I give this to them within 5-10 minutes they will start eating
their kibble or taking their duck soup...I have had only a couple of
ferrets whom this didn't work on the first time but when I gave it to
them later it worked... hope this helps.
