When we travel, we use a pet sitter with ferret experience. She has our vet
info and my cell number and I call in to check and it works out well. When
we lived in Maryland we found our first pet sitter by my looking on the
internet under the Pet Sitters Association and National Association of Pet Sitters
and calling lots of different people listed to determine if they had ferret
experience. Then I interviewed and found a great one. When we moved here to
Virginia I did the same thing. I leave lots of instructions and I spent time
first with each pet sitter so they could get to know my animals and my
routines here. I also always use a bottle of water attached to their cage in
addition to water bowls so if they knock over the water bowls, they have a bottle
that can't get knocked over to drink from. My ferrets have their own
bedroom so the pet sitter gets them out from the cage each day and plays with them
and refreshes food, water and litter pans. I either have her come twice per
day or one longer visit once per day, depending on her schedule. This has
worked very well for us.
