Subject: [ferrethealth] Re: giving carafate
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

I have done some shopping around and in my area of the northeast, the
best prices on my ferrets Rx's are to be had at Walgreen Drug.

weather or no it is written or phoned in, be sure your Vet tells the
pharmacy that the Rx is for a ferret and to prepare it in pediatric
form - with NO ALCOHOL.

[Moderator's Note: the liquid Carafate is not a compounded med so the pharmacist would not be preparing it. It is standard product with one concentration for the suspension.

Here are the complete details including ingredients:
http://dailymed.nlm.nih.gov/dailymed/drugInfo.cfm?id=2931

>CARAFATE Suspension contains sucralfate and sucralfate is an
?-D-glucopyranoside, ?-D-fructofuranosyl-, octakis-(hydrogen sulfate),
aluminum complex.
...
>CARAFATE Suspension for oral administration contains 1 g of sucralfate
per 10 mL.
CARAFATE Suspension also contains: colloidal silicon dioxide NF, FD&C
Red #40, flavor, glycerin USP, methylcellulose USP, methylparaben NF,
microcrystalline cellulose NF, purified water USP, simethicone USP, and
sorbitol solution USP. Therapeutic category: antiulcer.

Of course, compounding is also an option.]
