Since it doesn't sound like you have a biopsy confirming suppositions and making it an
actual firm diagnosis you will want to read these excellent vet-written resources in their
entirety to leave a very large amount of what you want to know.

Some ferrets with milder IBD are helped by the added fiber from pumpkin puree, but that
is certainly not universal and not helpful for those with more extreme cases.
In some of these ferrets food allergies or food intolerances play parts, so those individuals
are helped by altering the diet. Chicken seems to be the most common trigger, but there
have been those for whom other poultry types, or some certain mammal meats have been
causes, and others have reacted to specific starch origins. It varies among individuals and
becomes a matter of doing trials to find out the right things for the given individual and
hope that new food problems don't add on. (BTW, If I recall right, I have heard that Totally
Ferret specifically added a completely non-chicken food due to this; the people who were
at the IFC Symposium and heard about that will know more than I because I just heard
what they related.) Oh, I just had an idea: the website. Okay, it is Turkey Formula, just go
to
http://www.totallyferret.com/
and click on the ferret food box showing the ferrets which links to their ferret foods page.
We used to use z/d for one who could not tolerate any poultry types because the proteins
are broken down to their amino acids so it is hypoallergenic.)
