I'd have to look up the meds to find out if
the dosing is okay and can't do that right
now so hopefully some can in the meantime.
Reducing medication levels below an effective
dose can not only prevent a medication from
working but it can cause more antibiotic
resistant bacteria to arise. Like stopping
medication too early it is among the things at
the root of some of the nastier bacteria today.
On the other hand, if the antibiotic played a
role though an allergic effect then it would need
to be stopped and possibly an additional med
added.
How was the pneumonia diagnosed? What tests
or imaging were done? (If none, and if this is
based only on coughing then some other options
also have to be considered.)
How about this: arrange to do the next dose
in the animal hospital so that the vet can see
it first hand. My suspicion is that it was not
caused by the antibiotic but by the disease you
are treating and was coincidental, but if it is
causing an allergic effect on top of the
pneumonia some of the aspects can be hard to
tell apart.
You say the ferret got hot. was that a sudden
onset of great redness, or did you take the ferret's
temperature? If the latter, what was the reading?
