Subject: [ferrethealth] hind leg loss of use & incontinence
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

Hello,
My ferret, Lily, developed hind leg weakness in May which started out as
something slight and within 2 weeks became almost complete lack of use of her
back legs and total incontinence. She is 2.5 years old. Her energy has
remained pretty good, she eats and drinks well, she doesn't seem to be in pain and
she drags herself around with her upper body and plays with me and her
sisters. Her vet can't figure out what is wrong and suggested against any invasive
testing. Her blood glucose upon fasting is normal and so is her x-ray. She
has remained about the same for the past month. Does anyone have any ideas
on this? I feel so bad that she can't move well at such a young age, and she
goes potty wherever she is, including in her bedding and on her sisters when
they sleep together.
Thanks for any ideas. Her vet is very experienced with ferrets, but I
wonder if there is anything else I should be doing. He thinks it is either
lymphoma starting in the spine, or a stroke, and says there is nothing that can be
done for either condition that will help her.
Lisa & Lily
