Hi Robert,
No, I would not jump to the conclusion that the
anorexia and refusing to eat are related to the Lupron.
The 2 most common problems that need to be considered
are a stomach ulcer and an insulinoma.
Does he do any teeth grinding or pawing at the mouth?
Does he have any tarry stools?
Is he also weak and ataxic in the rear legs?
Time to get his glucose checked (to test for insulinoma) and
to check for an ulcer.
Things you can do to increase his appetite include using
Carafate about 10-15 minutes before feeding him, using an
antacid (Tagamet, Pepcid, Zantac, etc), and using a bland diet
such as baby food or Hill's a/d. SQ fluids may be needed if
he is dehydrated. then oral electrolyte solutions such as
Pedialyte, Rebound, or Gatoraid can be used.
Needless to say it is time for a vet check to find out what the
actual problem(s) is.
Hope that helps,
Jerry Murray, DVM
