Subject: [ferrethealth] Lymphoma/Lymphosarcoma virus
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com
I believe that a ferret that I'm fostering has lymphoma. She has
lumps under her armpits, is very lethargic, has lost a lot of
weight, and it also feels like she has an enlarged spleen. She also
has insulinoma.
In my 15+ years of ferret ownership I've never had to deal with this
form of cancer so right now I'm a little nervous.
I've read it mentioned that lymphoma may be caused by a virus and
there is some research as to if it can be spread to other ferrets.
Does anyone have any more info on this? I did look in the archives
and the newest posting was from 2 years ago. Is there any new
studies out there supporting/refuting this claim?
Also, other than chemo and prednisone, are there any newer drugs to
treat lymphoma?
I do have an appointment to see the vet this morning to see what she
thinks.
I am just really concerned about Mojave catching it if it is indeed
easy for other ferrets to catch the virus.
Thank you,
Sheryl
