It sounds like Boo Boo might have some acid reflux. You may want to
talk to your vet about Pepcid AC.

Also, many of mine absolutely think the soft Ultimate is the best food
on earth.

Sometimes weight gain is the result of a medical condition or
medication. In my experience, ferrets typically aren't fat unless
there is an underlying problem. I've had ferrets that came to me
literally starving and after they gained back their weight, even though
they didn't eat an abnormally large amount they continued to gain to
obesity. My theory is that their body hoarded fat calories because of
the previous starvation.

Cyborg is fat at 4.5 pounds, and when he was a baby he had an infection
that contributes to his current weight issues. Gerri can tell more
about his medical condition as she had him at that time. If I remember
correctly, he lost a lot of weight and became very thin before they
were able to get things figured out and get him on the road to
recovery.

Perhaps you could take Boo Boo for daily short walks to help increase
his activity level. Walking can help people and our companion animals
drop a bit of weight. Walking with ferrets takes patience as the
walking part isn't much, but he exploring time is increased and any
activity should be a plus to help burn fat calories.

I'm not one to limit foods because of blood glucose levels, but rather
find a lower calorie food in addition to the regular food and mix them
so the amount eaten is sufficient for the ferret, yet calorie content
is decreased.

With the lethargy I'd be concerned about blood sugar issues. In mild
cases I've seen some ferrets self-regulate their levels by eating more.
