I agree that early weaning across the board creates many problems for
all kinds of animals. But some "Moms" are just so good that you
cannot leave it up to them. I've seen horses and cow moms well into
their teens and twenties still allowing their offspring to suckle.
Carnivores may have the added advantage of sharper teeth encouraging
the moms to wean their young. But a responsible breeder will neither
remove the young to early, nor allow them to pull on the mom forever.

The major idea offered for early weaning is that the young animals
will "bond" better with their new human parent, but I've adopted
enough older, adult animals to know that bonds are created from
mutual respect and affection, not the age of the animal when acquired!

I do hope more breeders say NO! to early weaning!
